STOP! DONT LEAVE THAT WINDOW ROLLED DOWN!
The featured MGF was serviced by us about 1 month ago when Mr.Brown called us explaining how his vehicle had developed a serious mould growth problem and enquiring about a service which could deep-clean the leather upholstery to eliminate the traces of the mould and restore the appearance of his vehicle to 'like-new'.
The Challenge
It all started on a fine January evening at Heathrow, where Mr.Brown left his vehicle parked before going away on his holiday. Upon return, about 10 days later and much to Mr.Brown’s horror, he found that the interior of his vehicle had been completely soaked from the rainy conditions whilst his vehicle was left parked and the leather upholstery surfaces and the roof lining had almost turned from rich maroon to an unsightly white due to the mould bacteria. Upon closer inspection Mr.Brown found that he had unwittingly left the passenger side window partially rolled down which gradually allowed a significant level of water to enter the vehicle's interior. However, by now, it was too late - the age of the leather combined with the wet weather conditions had accelerated the growth of moisture-feeding bacteria which give rise to mould and fungi and about 85% of the vehicle’s interior (see pictures) was now covered in mould. Some serious curative action was needed.
The Journey
Although, we have valeted many cars before to achieve the purpose of removing mould from the upholstery, this MGF presented a significant challenge in removing the unwanted growth without damaging the leather upholstery, due to the age and condition of the leather. Nevertheless, our star operative(!) Foga decided to get on with it, armed with his wealth of knowledge and experienced gained at MG itself before he started working with Valet First and a box full of cleaners and conditioners.
